TIPPING

Tipping
Tips for guides and porters on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.
The typical tip is US$15 per day for guides, US$10 per day for assistant guides, US$ 7 per porter per day. This is from the whole group not per hiker. If they did extra or special work, it is nice to tip higher than this. · Expect 2 porters per hiker, 1 guide per 6 hikers, and 1 assistant guide per 4 hikers (assistant guides double as porters). On the Umbwe route, expect 3 porters per hiker. On the Lemosho/Crater Camp route, expect 4 porters per hiker.

Budget
$150-200 per hiker for tips for a 6-day trek.

Gifts
Guides and porters also appreciate your warm clothing, shoes, and packs.

Safari Tips for guide and cook
US$15 per day for driver guide and US$10 per day for cook (basic camping) for the whole safari group.

Expectations
Tips should not be dependent on whether you summit or not, but rather whether they were professional and had your best interests in mind. · If your guides and porters have not met and exceeded your expectations, please inform our office immediately, and don't feel obligated to give a tip. If they press you for a tip during the trek, inform our office as well, as this is also forbidden (asking at the end of the trek is okay).
